SUWANEE RIVER RENDEZVOUS 10/1/16 to 10/29/16

Left Bella Terra to drive to Mayo, Fl at 8 AM.  Arrived at Suwanee River at 3:30.  Got set up in space 154 and watched the Sooners win their ballgame.  We were here when the hurricane was coming through, we were far enough in the middle of the state where we were not effected by it.  Thank goodness.

this is Convict Spring.  This is a cool story.  Back in the early 1900s, these spring was used by Lafayette County incarceration system.  The prisoners worked on road construction projects-they were called Chain gangs.  When it go too late or too far to get the inmates  back to the county jail, they would spend the night at remote camps scattered throughout the county.  Convict Springs was one of those remote camps.  The convicts would gather around campfires with the light reflecting in the spring, but history doesn't lie.  Every once in a while, someone will turn up an artifact of one kind or another that further confirms the property's colorful past.   Convict Spring sits atop a fascinating underwater cave system as well, one we're certain the convicts didn't spend any time exploring.  This particular cave system is a dangerous one, with a restricted entrance and the need for a side-mounted style of diving through extremely narrow passages.  Rumor is, if you take a dip in the spring in the evening time over the sounds of crickets and frogs, you might hear the faint rhythm of a chain gang...
Needless to say, we didn't swim in the spring.  lol
The Suwanee River

Every time we drove over the river, I had to sign..Way down upon the Suwanee River...lol
our home for a month
This park was way in the boonies.  It was a nice park, but we had to plan out grocery shopping cause it was 30ish miles to a walmart.

I admit I am a WALKING DEAD fanatic.  This park did not have AMC and TWD was starting over in November.  WELL, we had to find another park that had AMC that is all there is to it.  lol.  We did several day trips looking for a park that had TWD.  We finally found one in the big town of Inglis, Fl. so we left Mayo 3 days early to get there for the beginning of TWD.  Gotta love my hubby for putting up with me for  almost 37 years.  Remember we left Foley early so we could come to Mayo to watch an OU football game, what can I say...we are retired and can do this.  woohoo

We made a day trip to Jacksonville, Fl to go to a Pielogy.  Oh my goodness, this is the best pizza you will find... Wish I had taken a picture of it, guess I was too busy feeding my face with awesome pizza.. Next time.  hehe
